Summary

he article is an attempt to analyze the policy of granting special provisions (perma-nent or temporary) on the basis of the relevant orders of President Bolesław Bier ut in the period from December 1945 to December 1947. The basis of the author’s fndings are fles preserved in the Archives of New Records in Warsaw of 59 cases of individuals who in vast majority due to various reasons did not obtain the right to pensions, or wanted to obtain ben-efts higher than those granted to them. It results from an analysis that among the recipients of special provisions dominated individuals associated with left-wing past (albeit not neces-sarily Communist past). Important criteria also included activities aimed at strengthening Polishness during Poland’s division by the three foreign powers and during the interwar period. The highest benefts were granted to outstanding creators of culture (Leopold Staf and Ludwik Solski).
