Summary

In the period of World War II in Piotrków were published both the ofcial German press and Polish conspiratorial newspapers. In September and October 1939 the occupying au-thorities issued a newspaper “Petrikauer Nachrichten – Nowiny Piotrkowskie,” in Polish and German. Then (until July 1940) appeared regulation dailies (“Anordungsblatt”, the title changed depending on the issuing ofce). “Kurier Częstochowski” issued from October 1941 to August 1944 the Piotrków mutation. Few conspiratorial newspapers were published in occupied Piotrków. From 1940, an underground newspaper was issued by the ZWZ (Union of Armed Struggle), then the AK (Home Army) – “Bój” (Fight, 1940 –1941), “Wiadomoś-ci Wieczorowe” (The Evening News, 1941–1942), “Tygodnik Informacyjny” (Information Weekly, 1942), “Polska Żyje” (Poland Is Alive, 1943). It was only after the Warsaw Uprising that PPR (the Polish Workers’ Party) began publications of “Trybuna Ludu” (Tribune of the People, 1944) and “Trybuna Wolności” (Tribune of Freedom, 1944–1945).
