Summary

The article is an attempt to answer the question why in the second half of the nineteenth century the way in which municipal slaughterhouses were working in Warsaw in these days began to disturb some of the citizens. The author starts with presentation how in nine-teenthcentury Warsaw meat was provided and then – analyzing debates in the newspapers and transformations of the locations of slaughterhouses in urban space – focuses on hygienic discourses, everyday problems and conficts around municipal slaughterhouses.
