This text is focused on the fate of several cities in Hellenistic Greece, frst and foremost, Corinth, Chalcis, Demetrias and Oreos. These cities were so important for Macedonian r ule in Greece that they were called the “shackles of Hellas”. The pur pose of this text is to present the intricate fate of these cities from the Macedonian conquest to the Macedonian defeat at Cynoscephalae in 197 BC. In addition, two more issues are raised: the importance of polit-ical, military, and economic importance of the cities and their ability to defend themselves, which could defne their impact on the fate of Hellenistic Greece.
