The article is devoted to the basic concepts associated with the obligation of military service in Poland in the years 1918–1939. The obligation of military service goes beyond its current understanding and also includes military service in diferent branches of communi-cation. In order to facilitate its handling, these defnitions were presented in three thematic groups: 1) the obligated to military service, 2) the duty of national defense, 3) other concepts.
In each thematic group, included defnitions are presented in alphabetical other, which the author believes makes them transparent and facilitates the use of them.
