Żołnierze rosyjscy narodowości polskiej w liczbie ok. 4,5 tysiąca znaleźli się na Wyspach
Japońskich w wyniku wojny rosyjsko-japońskiej. Niektórzy z nich spędzili tam nawet 1,5 roku.
Mieli oni doskonałą okazję do zapoznania się z zupełnie obcą im kulturą i społeczeństwem,
o których przed wybuchem rzeczonego konfliktu nie mieli żadnej wiedzy. Na ogół pozytywne
kontakty z japońskimi żołnierzami i cywilami (obojga płci) wzbudziły wśród Polaków sympatię
do Kraju Wschodzącego Słońca.
Approximately 4,500 Russian soldiers of Polish nationality found themselves on the Japanese
islands as a result of the Russo-Japanese War. Some of them remained there for as long as a year
and a half. They had a unique opportunity to become acquainted with a culture and society
entirely foreign to them – one about which they had known nothing prior to the outbreak of
the conflict. Generally positive interactions with Japanese soldiers and civilians (both men and
women) fostered a sense of goodwill and cultural appreciation among the Poles toward the
Land of the Rising Sun.
