Obchody 20-lecia Polski Ludowej oraz będące ich kontynuacją 20-lecie wyzwolenia spod okupacji niemieckiej Ziem Zachodnich i Północnych, a także poprzedzające je 20-lecie Polskiej Partii Robotniczej (1962) i 20-lecie (ludowego) Wojska Polskiego (1963), stanowiły punkt wyjścia do rozwijania szerokiej akcji zaznajamiania społeczeństwa z najnowszymi dziejami Polski i propagowały jej wizję zgodnie z oczekiwaniami partii rządzącej. Kampanię tę wspierała kinematografia, jedna z podstawowych instytucji pamięci nieuchronnie podlegających fluktuacjom społeczno-politycznym. Pakiet filmów krótkometrażowych mających wspierać tematyką partię rządzącą został starannie wyselekcjonowany i dobrany. Nie szczędzono środków na tego typu przedsięwzięcia. W latach 1960–1966 wyprodukowano ponad sto filmów krótkometrażowych dotyczących czasów współczesnych. Obejmowały okres od przejęcia władzy przez PPR do 1964 r. Oceniając PRL z perspektywy 20-lecia, eksponowano osiągnięcia, a pomijano braki i obciążającą działalność wobec społeczeństwa polskiego, przez co obraz był jednostronny i służył władzy komunistycznej.
The commemoration of the People’s Republic of Poland and the 20th anniversary of the liberation of the Western and Northern Territories that followed, as well as the preceding 20th anniversary of the PPR (1962) and the 20th anniversary of the Polish People’s Army (1963), provided a starting point for developing a broad campaign to introduce the public to Poland’s recent history and promote the achievements of the Polish People’s Republic. This campaign was supported by the cinema, one of the basic institutions of memory – modernity, inevitably subject to socio-political fluctuations. The package of short films covering the topics intended to support the ruling party was carefully selected. This types of projects easily received sufficient resources. No less than 107 short films dealing with contemporary times were produced between 1960 and 1966. They covered the period from the seizure of power by the PPR and its armed units of the Army of the People’s Republic of Poland until 1964. When assessing the People’s Republic of Poland from the perspective of the 20-year period, its achievements were highlighted, silencing shortcomings and thus creating an attachment to the new government. The effectiveness of this type of manipulation certainly varied. Undoubtedly, visualizing the successes of People’s Poland, and its power, which could be presented in films, was an important element of social influence. The communist authorities took it into account, investing over 6 years in the production of more than 100 films, dealing with the present day and the transformations that it brought.
