Celem niniejszej pracy jest przedstawienie działalności Wojewódzkiego Komitetu Uczczenia Pamięci Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego w Wilnie. Od 14 maja 1935 do 12 marca 1936 r. działał pod nazwą Komitetu Obywatelskiego Uroczystości Pogrzebowych i Uwiecznienia Pamięci Marszałka Józefa Piłsudskiego w Wilnie. Komitet dążył do uwiecznienia pamięci Józefa Piłsudskiego, pierwszego marszałka odrodzonej Polski: organizował obchody rocznic śmierci Marszałka, czuwał nad budową pomników i realizacją innych projektów uwiecznienia jego pamięci, utrzymywał stały kontakt z komitetami powiatowymi i kontrolował ich działalność. Jego działalność posłużyła nie tylko uwiecznieniu pamięci Józefa Piłsudskiego, lecz także konsolidacji i wychowaniu społeczeństwa w duchu patriotycznym. Działalność Komitetu została przerwana wybuchem II wojny światowej.
The goal of this work is to depict the activities of the Regional Committee to Honor the Memory of Marshall Jozef Pilsudski in Vilnius. Between May 14, 1935 and March 12, 1936 this entity operated under the name of the Citizens’ Committee for Funeral Ceremonies and the Immortalization of the Memory of Marshall Jozef Pilsudski in Vilnius. In its relatively short existence from 1935 to 1939, the Committee made a significant contribution to the immortalization of the memory of Jozef Pilsudski, the first leader of reborn Poland. It organized commemorative ceremonies on the anniversary of his death, it presided over the construction of monuments and the completion of other projects to immortalize his memory, it led informationa campaigns, and it maintained full-time contact with similar local committees and monitored their activities. The Committee’s achievements served not only to immortalize Jozef Pilsudski’s memory, but also the memory of all fallen heroes of the battles for independence. It also worked toward the acquisition and consolidation of a patriotic spirit within the society. The Committee’s activities ended with the outbreak of World War II in September 1939.
