Streszczenie

Czy problem zbiegostwa żon i mężów w osiemnastowiecznej Polsce był częsty? Na to pytanie autorka spróbuje odpowiedzieć, analizując 62 ogłoszenia opublikowane w „Gazecie Warszawskiej” w latach 1775–1780. Badany materiał jest niezwykle różnorodny i pozwala na dogłębne zbadanie zjawiska. Ciekawe jest, dlaczego w ogóle publikowano tego typu ogłoszenia, czy upatrywano w nich możliwość odnalezienia zaginionego niejednokrotnie przed wielu laty współmałżonka? W ogłoszeniach podawano szczegółowe informacje na temat zbiega, takie jak wygląd, strój, w którym opuścił rodzinny dom, czy cechy charakteru, mające go wyróżniać na tle danej społeczności. Często wspominano też o porzuceniu małych dzieci. Ale czy rzeczywiście te informacje wystarczyły, żeby sprowadzić niewiernego współmałżonka do domu? Nie zawsze, dlatego korzystano z możliwości zarówno oferowanych przez władzę świecką, jak i kościelną.

Summary

This article deals with the runaway wives and husbands in the 18th century. This problem was investigated with the help of the surviving issues of “Gazeta Warszawska” from 1775 to 1780. The ads published in the newspaper have become a valuable source material for the analysis of their specific construction, as well as the involvement of the Church authorities in the search of runaway spouses. An attempt was made to describe the reasons why such advertisements were so often placed in the press. It was also considered whether this type of search could have been effective at all
