W wielu pałacach oraz zamkach dawnej Rzeczypospolitej wśród służby obecny był murgrabia, pełniący funkcję zarządcy oraz opiekuna rezydencji. W siedzibie rodziny Rzewuskich w pałacu podhoreckim na początku XIX w. był nim Ignacy Różycki. Wśród zadań przydzielonych opiekunowi pałacu wymienić należy zadania związane z bezpieczeństwem pałacu, zatem z ochroną przed złodziejem, z ochroną przeciwpożarową, a także z utrzymaniem rezydencji w należytym porządku. Obowiązkiem murgrabiego było również czuwanie nad bezpieczeństwem kolekcji dzieł sztuki i biblioteki zgromadzonej przez przedstawicieli rodu.
In many palaces and castles of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, there was a bur-grave (Polish “murgrabia”) among the servants, who performed the function of an adminis-trator and guardian of the residence. Ignacy Różycki was the burgrave in the family residence of the Rzewuski family’s palace in Podhorce at the beginning of the 19th century. Among the tasks assigned to the guardian of the palace, what should be mentioned are the tasks related to the safety of the palace and hence protection against theft, fire protection, and keeping the mansion in proper order. It was also murgrabia’s duty to watch over the security of the works of art’s collection and the library gathered by the representatives of the family.
